Stator Issues

I have a 1980 Mercury 70 hp outboard serial # 5651206. the stator is a CDI 174-545K1 which has a blue/white and a red/white wire assuming that is for low speed and high speed. Both of these wires are going to a ground (don't think this is right). After looking at 2 different repair manuals neither shows these 2 wires for this model. Wondering if I have the wrong stator or can someone tell me where these 2 wires connect....

Re: Stator Issues

Gerry, Thanks for your help this is the way it is wired..... just don't know why I have had to replace the power pack, stator and trigger twice and have less than 20 hrs on motor since first replacement....

Re: Stator Issues

What is the history of the problem and who replaced all of the electrical components, was it yourself or a shop? Is the engine running now?

I would be very surprised if they all needed replacing.
Unless of course, someone was powering up the ignition system components with 12volts....
