I have a 1991 Merc. 200. Motor would not run over 3000 RPM'S. Took it to a local mechanic he changed the stator. Took it to the lake ran fine all day. Went to the lake the next week boat would not run. Took it back to the machanic he said it must of been a bad stator and replaced it. The boat ran fine for awile then went bad. Starts and idles good, carbs are clean, spark plugs are new and compression is good.
What could be making the stators go bad?

Please Help............. :(

Think I heard somewhere that bad/loose battery connections can screw up a stator.

I doubt it's the stator. Starting to sound like a switchbox.Ask that tech what output readings he or she got out of that stator or if they even did any.

I AGREE WITH HONDO THOSE STATORS VERY SELDOM GO BAD MORE THAN LIKELY ONE OF THE SWITCHBOXES OR POSSIBLE TRIGGER IF DROPPING TWO CYLINDERS ON OPPOSITE BANKS.
