1996 Johnson 88 special. When i first got motor running after getting it I had no charge at battery. Learned that rectifier was bad. Changed that and got a new tach(found out old one was bad after rectifier change). All seemed good except with the unregulated system battery voltage on the digital gauge on my Lowrance GPS would show battery charging up to 17 volts while running at speed. Had to run lights and other things to help get it down. Anyway, now every once in a while tach will act all crazy and read much higher then actual RPM's. Sometimes it will drop back down to true rpms and stay that way for a while. And I have not seen voltage above 13.4 in a while. Seems to be charging some because I have started some days around 12.2 volts and ended with 13+. Dont know if tach issue and charging are related. Could stator be going? Performance is good except sometimes I get a low speed miss upon acceleration. Any thoughts?
