Has happened to me the last two times i have taken it out. I start it before i leave the house and it fires up perfectly and idle great. But when i take it to the water when i try to start it, if fires, runs for about 30 seconds then dies, right after that it is a pain to get it to start again. It seems that it just doesnt fire.

I figure i flooded it the first time, so pulled it out, pulled the plugs and gave it a few starts with the plugs out to get the fuel out. It seemed to work and started. Then ran perfectly the rest of the day. Second time i took it out, same situation, except i didnt pull the plugs, and just kept on trying to fire.

To me it seems to be flooding because there is alot of gas in the water after i keep on trying to start it. Could it be bad spark plugs, not providing enough spark, or is there something that i could be doing wrong, causing it to flood?

Ps. carbs were rebuilt last year.

Re: Starts perfectly on muffs then a pain to start on the water?

Remember, engines have to work harder in the water due to the back pressure and having to pump their own water instead of having a hose do it. When you first try to fire her up, pump the bulb till it gets stiff, than if you have it, use the primer/choke and see what happens. Sounds like your flooding it so be careful about just cranking away on it. If the above dosen't work give it full gas (not in gear) and crank her for a bit. Pull the plugs and check/clean them as well, replace if needed. Hope this helps ya.

Carbs rebuilt you say?

Is the choke plate closing and staying closed after running on the muffs? Is the fuel in the float bowl draining when on a steep angle (while starting on trailer on ramp)? Fuel pump?

Just throwing out a couple things I would look for...
