I have a very similar problem with my 350. Been through everything. on it. ON the muffs it lights right off. in the water I have extended cranking, I go through a starting battery about once every 12-18 months. This is what I have done and nothing has helped.

New Carb, old was leaking on the fuel shaft.
New in tank fuel pickup, was told the screen could be plugged up. Mine had no screen.
New anti siphon valve.
New ignition and Distributor as I was hoping the previous owners hurt it from improper coil on it.
New Exhaust Shutters
New fuel/water separator filter.
New Fuel pump

Engine has ~380 hours with new exhaust mani's when it got put in. Does not matter where the throttle is as it is always the same amount of crank time in the water. Ignition has plenty of voltage when cranking.

I wasn't stealing anyone's thread. I was posting every thing that I have done and nothing has fixed the issue.

Anyhow. The carb was the qjet and is now a edelbrock. 600 cfm marine version.

As for fuel, I have checked it has fuel pushing out the accelerator nozzles, but still cranks a while.

As for wet plugs or spark I have not checked for those. But I don't think it is those.

If I have someone bavk the boat in and I start it right away it fires right up. If I tie the boat to the dock and park the truck myself I get the extended cranking as well.

It is just flustrating because every time I turn the key it's crank crank crank then fire. I move around while fishing and I can easily start the engine 10 to 15 times a day.

Do you put the throttle in start up mode so you can operate the throttle in neutral?
When it's cold do you pump the gas two to three times? When it's warm you should probably do a zero to 3/4 pump.
You should crack the throttle to maybe 10% open while you crank it. Then when it starts back it off.

If it hasn't been started for a week I pump 2 or 3 times then while cranking I do some 1/3 throttle pumps til it lights off. Carburetors dry up when left sitting. It could take 15 to 30 seconds to get gas to the cylinders. If that makes you crazy you can shoot a burst of carb cleaner in the carb and the engine will probably kick right off.
After sitting for a few minutes or right after shutting off it should start immediately. Does it long crank then?
Did you read the technical paper with your replacement carb and set up the idle mix per the instructions? That's important.
Is it timed per the book?

Yes on the pumping the gas and opening the throttle plates.

I can drive around the lake shut it down. And immediately hit the key and it lights right up. Wait a few minutes and it has the long crank.

At that point I have tried to see if opening the throttle if it is flooded, and pumped it different times. None have seemed to help.

I set the timing to the instructions I had gotten with the voyager ignition when I put it in.

Carb was setup while in the water and not on land.
