I have a 75HP Force. After sitting for 2 years th e engine won't start.I took the hood off and noticed when I tried to start it the starter gear was not in contact with the flywheel.I placed the two gears together and when I hit the ignition the starter gear dropped down from the flywheel.Any ideas?

Re: Starting

First thing I'd check would be the condition of the battery. Second thing would be the condition of the starter solenoid. Third would be the condition of the starter system cables. I'd take them all off and brush them off. Hopefully, the starter will be good after that. They're not cheap to replace.

Re: Starting

The starter has what is called a bendix. The bendix is spring operated and when the starter is engaged the gear spins up the bendix to engage the flywheel. If there if grime, grease or other debris on the bendix it may not travel up to engage the starter. Try cleaning the bendix with some WD40 and wipe dry.
