Hello,

Making sure this is right! Push the throttle all the way forward and start. My concern is the high RPMs when it starts. Is this bad for the engine to start at such a high RPM when cold?

Thanks,
Allen

I would not start my engine that way. That is what the coke is for or fast idle. The only time you would want to try startting at full throttle is if you have flooded the engine.
I guess it would nice to know what type of engine you are trying to start.

You definately do not want to start it at full throttle. Normally you would start it at idle if it was warm and at idle or just above, using the fuel enrichener when the motor is cold.

Is it possible mtcaves is thinking that the "throtte" is the fast idle control? That's what I thought mine was when I first got it... it sounds stupid, but I am new to boating and the guy I bought the motor from didnt explain that to me.

On my 66 merc 500, I have to move the idle control all the way up, hit the choke button and turn the key. After it fires, you can hear it slowly start increasing in rpms after a few seconds. I leave it up until they start coming up, then I lower it down.
