Would anyone know what the appropriate starting procedures are for a 1995 115 Evinrude. Just bought recently. Getting very good power from engine but it never starts easily in Neutral. I always have give the engine gas by increasing the RPM on the throttle in neutral. Am I not starting correctly?

Also, when using anti corresion spray, it it recommended after every use, month, bi-annualy? Do you need to keep the spray away from the carborator top plate, or can this be sprayed too without any harm to the carb or engine.

Thanks everyone.

Re: Starting Procedures

EvinFla,Your engine should be equipped with a primer button ignition switch and Quickstart.When starting cold ,squeeze fuel line bulb until firm and turn ignition key to start while pushing in on it.This will allow fuel to bypass carbs and be injected directly into intake chamber.Once engine starts,if it sounds like it wants to fall off ,before it does,momentarily push in key primer unitl engine settles out.There should be no need for fast idle lever application as your engine has a Quickstart feature that holds rpms higher until engine is warm.Only takes several seconds.

ob's got it down. I've never seen one of these motors that wasn't a little "cold natured". It takes a little coaxing to get them going first thing in the morning. After that they just keep on running all day, though.

Re: Starting Procedures

Heres what has worked well for us;
1- Pressurize the system (pump up the bulb).
2- Turn the key to the "On" position. Do not engage the starter.
3- Push the key in and count to 8. This opens the primer and allows fuel in the motor.
4- Turn the key to "Start" to engage the starter.

The motor should fire almost instantly. You may have to "tap" the primer a few times until warmed up.

Good luck!
