What is the recommended procedure for starting an outboard motor?
In other words, how many seconds should one keep the starter engaged and how long should it be before trying again?

Newell

Re: Starting procedure

Outboards should start easily with few revolutions of the engine.

Firstly, squeeze the fuel bulb until it is hard. Make sure the breathing valve is open on the gas tank. Press electric choke on starter key and turn engine over. Do not use choke if engine is warm. Engine should start after two or three revolutions. If not I would suggest a tune-up.

Re: Starting procedure

Don't spin starter longer than 10 sec. Stop and let starter cool for a minute or two.

c/6

hooty
