I tried to crank my engine tonight after it had been laid up for about a month. It turned over when I first cranked it. I primed the bulb, put on the muffs and began starting it again. I choked it for a few seconds, gave it a little gas, then it began to sputter. It started to catch, but didn't. I stopped cranking for a few seconds. When I went to crank it again, nothing happened. No click from the solenoid, the starter motor did not fire. The tilt and trim even quit working. I put it in gear and moved it back to neutral and still nothing happened. When I use the tilt/trim on the engine, the only thing I hear is a warning signal. Any idea what the problem may be?

Re: Starting Problems - Tohatsu M60B

Right after I posted this topic, I realized that the troubleshooter was already posted. I went through the steps on the troubleshooter. However, it did not work out quite like I had expected. The starter solenoid read 0 volts on the starter side. At this point, I could not even get the solenoid to click. So, I started checking wires in the control box. Everything read approx. 12 V. At this point, I also realized that I had bypassed the neutral swtich a few years ago when I was having trouble with it. Still, I could not get the engine to fire. Finally, out of frustration, I briefly touched the battery lead to the starter side of the starter solenoid and the starter spun to life. I then reattached the battery lead, turned on the ignition and the motor started!? Anyone know why this would happen?

Thanks.
