Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard,....

Have ya checked the sparkplugs, When it won't start, for spark, 'n fuel,..??

when the earmuffs are on its no prblem but in the water its another story.

I've seen/ heard of burnt up exhaust shutters fallin' down the pipe, 'n causin' such Issues...
Seems they can fall free on the muffs, 'n still plug the pipe in the pond....

Re: starting problem

1994 MerCruiser 3.0L I-L4 : We just ran into the very same problem on Saturday while out at the river. the engine started great and ran about 1000 to 2000 yards before I shut it down. Then roughly 5 minutes later I couldn't get the darn thing to start back up and we had to be towed in. I opened the Exhaust to look at the Shutter Valve and all looks good. The Exhaust Bellows going out from the Transom to the Outdrive is brand new and there are no trim tabs on the boat. What should I be looking for as my potential problem..?

Re: starting problem

I recently had this same issue, check your fuel pump for proper operation. I have a 3.0 also and had to take the fuel pump apart and clean it inside. Once it's removed, you should be able to operate it with your hand, (use a rag as a cushion, it won't be easy). Mine would barely move because the upper diaphragm was dry, I cleaned it, put some gear lube in the upper part of the housing above the diaphragm and am back running. Hope this helps
