Last week I hooked the water hose to the collar and started my 1986 150 hp. It ran fine and afterwards I removed the lower unit to install a new Impeller. I went to the lake yesterday to fish, and stopped at my favorite Amaco Oil station to get a tankful of Super Premuim and when I got to the lake, the engine would not start. I changed the plugs and nothing happen.
I ran the starting battery down, so I used a set jumper cables to use the trolling motor batteries and still no start. I know removing the lower unit did not do anything to the cause.
I think Yamaha 150 hp engines won't start if the battery is not full charged. By the way it is getting fuel to the carbs.
Any help here would be welcomed.
Fred

Re: Starting Problem on 150 ProV Yamaha

hey skeeterman.. Had a friend the other day that ran into the same problem. He cranked the motor and ran it the day before he got ready to go fishing, and when he got to the ramp the next morning the motor wouldn't run. He found that he had a little gas left in the carb over the winter and when the new gas filled the carb it turned some of the varnish loose and wouldn't let it get any gas to the cylinders. He rebuilt the carb and it runs fine.

John H #6583, and Murx #4902.. I think you for your response to my post. I am thinking like you John, that the carbs may have some varnish from the old gas. I failed to drain the carbs last October. I will start tomorrow and remove each (3) carbs and clean them.
Murk, I don't know what you are referring to as a "deadman switch". I do have a "kill switch" on the boat. But the kill switch will not allow the person to try to start the motor.
Anyway, thanks so much for the advise.
Fred

Skeeterman, Don't tear apart the carbs until you figure the simple things first. Do you have spark?
