i am experiencing a problem starting my merc 200 2001 efi in colder weather. it will start only if i advance the throttle in the neutral position. i think this a problem since it is an efi motor. any help would be apprciated. i forgot to mention that it starts fine in warmer weather.

mistylady

Re: starting problem merc 200efi

Sorry, no automatic choke. Computer controlled all the way. I have yet to see a Mercury of any kind start well in cold weather. They weren't really engineered with cold temps in mind much. Only a tiny percentage of owners use them in those conditions. But on your motor it's all a matter of programming. That's in the computer and there isn't much you can do about it. RAPAIR might be able to help. I believe they're in Florida. They have programming capabilities and they can modify your computer to help in any number of unique situations. I'm not aware of any other place with the capability except for Mercury itself.

Have you had TPI adjusted to specs and Air temp sender checked?
