Hi. I have a 1987 Bayliner Capri, 3.0 OMC Cobra. I just changed the oil pan, which required removal of the starter. (No, I did not have to remove the engine, I was able to maneuver the pan to the side and then up and out.) After disconnecting the battery for safety, the only thing I had to remove or disconnect was the starter to get at the pan bolts. I tagged the starter wires and took a picture, to be sure to hook them up correctly again. Oh, also, I disconnected the throttle cable at the carb, but that was a cotter pin connection and I put it back the same way.
When I was done and put the key in, I first noticed that my voltage wasn't showing up on the dash gauge, and my fuel guage did not seem to activate. Also, I now have no horn but I still have bilge and blower. When I attempt to start it, it fires and starts running but dies if I don't hold the key in starting position. What should I be checking? I don't think I missed a connection, but I will be outside double-checking everything again while waiting for a good answer here! Please give advice. I do have a handheld voltmeter but do not know everywhere to check on the coil, starter, etc. Thanks in advance.
