HELP! I replaced the wiring harness and control box on my 1976 Mercury 850, and now the motor will not turn over using the key. The key does however engage the choke. I jumped started the motor, in which the key had to be in the "On" position for it to start, and the key also turned the motor off, but it just wont turn the starter over. I am at a loss. Please, anyone out there with a clue??

Re: Starting motor with the key

Hi Pestoney,
You probly have mis-wired the key switch.Usually the if the choke solenoid works it's not the fuse. Check the the key switch's (on OMC's it's the S terminal)it should have a yellow/red wire attached to it. Are you getting 12 volts to it when the key switch is in the start position? If not check the neutral safty switch in the control box.
Hope this will help
