I was given a 1970 9.5 evinrude. It gets great spark but will not run on fuel supply. It will run while spraying starting fluid in it but will not continue if I quit spraying. The carb is good & clean, I have fresh fuel in it. The guy that gave it to me had it running just over a year ago after he completely rebuilt it.

Hey M. A.,
If you're sure the carb is thoroughly clean, check the fuel system from tank pickup to carb. I suspect the fuel pump. ;)
Backlash

It sure sounds like the jets are plugged. If that motor hasn't been ran for a year or more you can just about bet that is your problem since the motor was running when it was set up.

Take it easy on the starting fluid too..... Bad for outboard motors.

:)

Re: starting 9.5 evinrude

How do I clean the jets? I pulled the carb apart and checked it over real close and did not see where the jets were. Can you help? I am not the keenest but can get it apart and back together.

Thanks
