Just bought a 99 Glastron with a 4.3. I have never owned a boat so this might seem a somewhat stupid problem. I am pretty sure I flooded it. It started a couple of times but would just barely stay running, then die. After that I can't get it to even pop. The previous owner just had it out a few days ago and everything ran fine. What do I need to do to fire it up if its flooded? I've tried opening it full but still don't get anything. It has sat overnight and it does the same thing today. Any suggestions?

Re: starting 4.3

Carbed?
I give it one quick pump - maybe 3/4 throttle - then back to 1/4 throttle - turn the key.
It will usually fire pretty quickly. Then I SLOWLY feather the throttle to TRY to get the rpm's up to 2k or so. 10-20 sec at that speed and I'm ready to back out.
BUT --
If it doesn't stay running, I leave the throttle at 1/4 - turn the key again while LIGHTLY pumping (1/4-3/8) which will usually get it going.

On the other hand - if your carb isn't properly adjusted you'll have starting issues until it is.
My sister's 94 4.3 ALWAYS started rough. They had to spray it with starting fluid probably 3/4 of the time. Finally bit the bullet and had it rebuilt and the starting problems were gone.
