89 5.7 Alpha One Mercruiser<br />Hopefully someone has some ideas. After sitting up for a few weeks, when I hit the starter, I hear a "click" from the engine compartment. After around a dozen clicks, it finally engages. Once it engages, it does fine until it sits for a while. I cleaned the terminals on the solenoid which is mounted on the starter with no luck. Could it be the starter is going bad? Is there any other connections to check? I sure don't want to replace a good starter, but I've got to address this before it leaves me stranded with wife and kids. Thanks

To check you will need a voltmeter. When she starts acting up check the voltage on both sides of the solinoid with the key in the start position. Should be the same. Sounds like you might have dirty contacts inside the solinoid.
