STARTER SOLENOID

I have a new starter solenoid for my 2005 60 hp four stroke Mercury but am confused concerning color code. The ground wire on the new solenoid is black and has a short pigtail ending with a ring terminal.........no problem............went to ground. The other wire is red and ends with a male plug in terminal. The control wire on the old solenoid connects to a white wire from the harness. Problem? Where does the white wire go? There is no white wire listed on the Mercury schematics. The wire could be a very, very light gray. Is there a detailed schematic available where I might find the answer? Many thanks
