The Starter was just clicking when i turned the key. I tapped the solenoid and it started. I did this about three more times before I decided to shut down for the day. After I got home I removed the solenoid from the starter,I then jumped power straight to the starter and it spun freely. I then pulled the plunger out and it engaged the motor and cranked it with no trouble. The problem is the solenoid is just not that old, Maybe 20 starts. I must admit that I just bought this boat and the previous owner said he had problems with the solenoid and had it replaced. It looks new, could there be any other problem or should I just get another Solenoid and try it? I took this one apart and one of the copper lugs looked burnt on the inside. I dont want to seem so stupid about this but I boat with my 1,2,and 6yr old sons and dont want to be stranded. Also dont want to spring for a new starter if I dont have to. If I had to go with my gut on this I would say new solenoid cause the one I took off looked like an el cheapo model probably from some discount auto parts store. Any Help/Suggestions would be most Appreciated
