starter solder melted help

the positive connection inside my starter melted and upon taking this appart and trying to resolder it I was unable to get the solder to attach to the bolt; it holds to the wire connection perfectly though. this is my first boat to restore and having a wonderful time troubleshooting every possible issue with the motor (150 mercury black max) roughly and '82 or '84; if anyone has had this problem before and could point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks, in advance.

The normal tool used for that job is a carbon rod soldering setup. A soldering gun or iron just isn't going to get the job done without doing some damage.
