I have gone thru 2 starter ropes in the part season,I had a look tonight and noticed a few polished areas where the rope ran. Is there a way I can remove the grommet? I could possibly have a new one machined from nylon or smooth this one out so it doesn't wear the rope.Any ideas on how to remove?

Hi,
You should be able to cut it out with a sawzall.

It might be easier if we knew what engine you have. :)

Hi,

The grommet (16) is held in by a c-clip (17).
You can pop the clip off with a screw driver.
Then the rope guide will pull out the front.

While your in there check the pulley (20) to make sure it spins easy.
I think you have a metal pulley, but if it is plastic replace it with a metal one.
Easier than a using a sawzall on it. :)
