So I Went to the lake Saturday and the boat wouldnt turn over fast enough AGAIN! Like I have said in previuos posts I have been having this trouble since I got the boat. this is my second used starter. I was going to just buy a new one this time but figured what do I have to lose. I took it apart cleaned it all out ( full of carbon ) and flipped the brushes over to have a new contact side. I put it back together and tried cranking it and it cranks perfect. Is there anything wrong with what I did? I also geased the shaft. Sorry for the long post.

Re: Starter Repair????

Sounds like you answered your own question. It needs a rebuild. The brushes wear down and fowl out the contact plate.
You buy use and you get what you pay for.

Re: Starter Repair????

I think greasing the shaft helped more than anything. My 90HP Force was doing the same thing. No problem since I took the starter apart, cleaned everything inside and greased the shaft.
