Pull the coil wire out of the distributor cap and ground the wire (BE SURE it's on a good clean ground) then crank the engine over. if a solenoid (starter or slave RELAY, or ignition switch) is hanging, the engine will continue to crank over, but not start.
Do this to test.
Remove the starter relay, in the socket jumper between the 87 and 30 terminals to crank the engine. If you remove the jumper and the engine continues to crank, you have starter problems.
Here is a picture of the connector. 87 should have a yellow/red wire to it, 30 will be red and always have power as long as the battery is hooked up. 87 will only have power when the relay is energized.
