Hey guys,

1989 Mercury 150 Blackmax

For some reason again today I had this problem, sometimes my engine starts first time then like today.

Starter engages spins the engine a couple of times then dis-engages and sits there spinning?

I've put a new 510CCA battery on and new brass terminals.

Solenoid seems fine as im assuming the starter wouldn't even engage otherwise - shaft on the starter etc is lovely and clean/lubed?

Cheers

Rob, That sounds like proper operation for the starter. When the motor fires, it will kick the bendix gear down, and the starter will spin. You need to let up on the key and then try to start it again. Sometimes when the motor is out of tune, it will do more of this, cause it is trying to start.
