starter just clicks

1986 mariner 50hp brand new starter everytime I turn the key it just clicks. There is a purple wire that's not connected to anything I can't figure out where it goes

check all your connections from the battery to the starter. most likely corrosion.

then check the condition of the charge of your battery.

Try jumping the solenoid. Just because it clicks does not mean its good.
