STARTER FLUID! Oops...wrong can...

Last weekend I was taking my ski out with my brother and my pops (not all at once-taking turns) the first start is always a little tough so my pops grabbed the can of starter fluid (with cylinder lubricant) to give it a spray. It still wouldn't start...hmmm let's try some more...still not starting...one more try of starter fluid down the carb throat and my pops says "this stuff is awfully white for starter fluid..."

That's when I look down and see him with a spray can of white lithium grease instead of the starter fluid! DOH!!!

In his defense, the cans were from the same company and looked identical minus the lettering-and they were from my tool box so he didn't know I had two similar cans...but it was a mess cleaning up!

Luckily we cleaned the carb up and it ran fine (as could be expected from a craigslist project) but boy I had to give him a hard time about that one!

Don't know what motor you have but if it's a 2 stroke, do NOT use starter fluid on it. It immediately strips away all lubrication.

I have read that but also read that the marine starter fluid with upper cylinder lubricant was OK to use. Is this not true?

Never heard of that stuff. I suppose it would be ok. From what I've read here the recommended would just be some pre-mix in a squirt bottle.

If solving the starting problem is not on your agenda, you'd be better just using a plastic spray bottle with some gas/pre-mix in it. ;)

I used to use WD for my 2 strokes all the time. It lubes and ignites. Works great.
