I changed the leaking valve cover gasket, changed oil and tested the engine. It ran fine. Then I decided to make a video of the engine running and turned on the engine but forgot to turn the water back on. The engine run without water input for about 10-12 secs. I realized my mistake turned the engine off and then tried it again with the running water. Looks like it was running ok, but Im still afraid that I damaged the impeller. It is brand new impeller I just put it in about a month ago, so it probably should be ok, but... Is there any way to check it without removing and disassembling the outdrive? I ran the engine with the water through the earmuffs for about 3-5 minutes and the temp was stable, was not rising above 150F, as usually.
Thank you.

The impeller is probably OK being that it was newer and only run a short time. The only real test is to put the motor in the water, and run it on the trailer, and see if it still pumps water fine. Running on a set of muffs is not a real test as the water pressure from the hose will force water into the water pump more than what would be in the water or a test tank.

Pump had just been run, with water, so it was already wet, and not sticking to the sides of the housing. 10-12 secs, you should be fine. I assume it was at idle...

Were the muffs still on? That would tend to keep some water in the pump so it wasn't dry.

Watch temps when you take her out next and do like oldman said and let it warm up while still on the trailer. You're probably OK.

Thank you guys, will test it tomorrow on the lake. And yes, there was some water in the system, since at first when i was checking the leak I ran it for at least 3-5 minutes with running water. And the muffs were still on when i ran it the second time.
