I have a 1964 Starling Jet P-500 Troller 5HP Outboard with a Clinton Powerhead that I cannot get to start. I purchased the motor last year and it was completely reconditioned to like to new condition, it looks brand new. All new parts were put on, new carb, new lines, etc. I ran the motor a few times last year with no problems and winterized it - ran stabilizer through the engine for a while, then drained the gas from the carb for the winter. Now I cannot get it to start. I always use lawn boy oil in the motor at a ratio of 32:1 and it has worked fine until now. As I prime the engine with primer bulb, gas will leak out from the carb. If I don't prime, it will not leak. I am assuming this is flooding the engine so I turn the two carb knobs to all the way lean and pull the rope a few times, then reset knobs to about 3 1/2 to 4 and try to start and nothing. I have placed new spark plugs this year and still cannot start. Can someone please help me as I will not spend the money on this motor to take to a mechanic. Please help. I am assuming that the float needle is stuck in the carb, thus it is flooding, but I do not know how to take a carb apart, and do not want to destroy the motor.
