I have been looking on this site for a few months and just this morning realized that there is a Starcraft section. There's lots of info on here, that's for sure. I thought you guys might be interested in seeing the boat I'm working on. I bought it on eBay and picked it up a few months ago from Florida, had to tow it back to Texas. Here is what I saw in the eBay ad:

When I got it the seats were in really bad shape and the gelcoat was badly oxidized but the rest of the boat seemed to be in fair condition so I took it home.

I have since buffed the golcoat (some, needs more), cleaned the boat well and re-upholstered the seats. I have never done upholstery before but given the quotes I received I decided I could mess up a lot and still save money so I bought an old Singer walking foot sewing machine (built in 1911, converted to electric, it's awesome!) and went to work.

I have also stripped the dated graphics from the hull and had a friend that owns a sign shop design something for it. It was designed as a nod to my wife, who I have always called Baby Girl. The image on the graphic is representative of her, except she doesn't have my initials tattooed on her arm. This wrap should be installed on the 17th of this month.

There are issues with the boat. It has a fiberglass floor but under the sink and in the ski locker I found some rotten wood. I have removed it from the ski locker but will not worry too much about the rest for now since here in Houston it is just beginning to get cool enough to go boating comfortably. I will do the wood and driver?s seat upholstery this winter. I am taking the boat out this weekend for its 2nd sea trial and we are going camping with it next weekend. I wish the graphics would be done by then but I guess it just wasn't in the cards.

I'm pretty proud of how it is turning out, but there is still a lot of work to do, especially on the electrical system.

What do you guys think?

Very Coo?
You could make some cash on the side job doing upholstery. Nice job.
I also have some friends that do wraps that?s a great idea..

beautiful work! and your story is a parable about buying on fleebay....looking at the pix with hindsight, you can see how carefully seller shot pics to hide seat etc issues.

I agree that not showing the pics in the auction was intentional, but he did voluntarily take $500 off of the asking price for seat replacement. I wasn't mad at him because I knew I wanted to have it redone anyway. Thanks for the compliments guys.

Big Pimpin' man. Sweet looking boat. What kind of power plant is in it? I agree that was dirty of the seller not to show the interior. Looks like you recovered from that nicely though. The seats look pretty good. Is that your first attempt at making seats/cushions?

Me likey, how fast is "Baby Girl"?

Thanks for the good words, yes it is my first time at upholstery. She has a Mercruiser 260 and I'm not sure about top speed. We took it out yesterday for the first real water run and once she warmed up she ran good, handled really choppy water in the rain like it was nothing.

Really nice work on the interior! I usually have to hire that stuff out.

We have the same boat with the same power. I've seen 53 mph with just me and a half tank of gas on very calm water.

I finally got a chance to GPS the boat. It still needs a tune up but I got 47.5 in chop with a passenger. Not bad for a big girl!

Wow well done she looks great !!!I just purchased the same boat except mine is a 98 with a 5.0...you guys on here have really great grasp on these so here is my question...any idea for top speed...my gps says 38 MPH was the best,,just me in her..19 pitch prop..1/4 tank fuel..anti fouling paint on bottom.. top rpms only 3400..??? i believe the tach is bad...sounded more like 4200--4500--...gonna do plugs wires filters cap rotor and retime...hopefully this will help...wires are from 2002 so its definatelly over due...also all lights stopped working last night fuse ok...kinda weird..just the lights stopped workin??? thank in advance guys for the help/info
P.S. literally just got boat yesterday...and i used to be a marine wrench for a couple years so I do have some experience..lol..

Cory - It's best to start your own thread instead of tying up to an old thread. You will get better/more help that way.

Sweet. See if you can tune it to over 50mph.
