starcraft 1987 medilist 1601 help

[hi i bought a 1987 starcraft medilist 1601 it has a 4.3l omc with a 4 barrel carb any idea of hp and would this be the original motor i was told the leg and motor were rebuilt 6 years ago cant find any info online

To know what you have there post some serial numbers, from the engine and drive.
As as side note, get rid of that edelbrock car air cleaner and replace it with a marine Flame arrestor. If the engine backfires the foam in the edelbrock can go up in flames, you dont want that to happen in your closed engine bay!

About 200hp...close guess anyway.

I used to have a 1987 1901 Medalist...it was a good boat.

With that automotive air cleaner on there make sure it is a MARINE carb. If its not get rid of it and the air cleaner. But the 4.3 and a four barrel in 1987 you probably have about 195hp at the flywheel and about 170 at the prop.

i cant find the engine info the leg is model 984541 s/n T0480554
i talked to the mech who serviced the boat since new the motor and leg were rebuilt and installed 6 years ago

did this boat every come stock with a 4.3l
should i have the carbs jeted the lakes around here are at 3200 feet where i bought the boat was 1129 feet

did yours have 4.3 how stable was it in rough water
still snow here i just bought the boat

Mine came original with a 4.3 and 2 barrel carb.
Good boat but they are not that heavy and do not like to run in chop without beating you to death.
Learn to use the trim in different conditions and you will get used to the ride.
I added Smart Tabs to that boat and it was a world of difference.

thanks for the info my boat has the hyrofoil on it what was the top speed of ur old boat

Mine had a foil on it when i bought it.I took it off and it actually handled better without it.
I then added the smart tabs and it would turn like it was on rails at full throttle...loved it!

If i remember correct i could get about 48 mph out of it.
It was a 19 footer so more weight than yours.
