Hello to all,
Running twin 2007 VP 4.3 GXi DP
The day started out great. Still in my dry rack I was able to finish up a majority of my spring cleaning. Even found time to finally install new carpet and replace the spot light bulb. I got all this done a couple hours before the marina closed so I wanted to put her in the water for first run tomorrow.
As I see the marina crew launching my boat and making their way around the corner, I walk down to the slip where he plans to park her. As he approaches the slip he puts it in reverse, he then says he heard a pop noise coming from the starboard side. He then puts it in neutral right away but he begins to hear a grinding noise and shuts down the starboard engine. When he shuts down the starboard he lost power steering and then control of the boat. You can imagine what happened next... yep, right into another boat's anchor. Well, fortunately we had some help on that side of the dock to prevent a bad situation turning worse. There was some cosmetic damage but wasn't as bad as it could have been. Wasn't pretty either.
Anyway, when I finally got over the other side of the dock, the dock hand explained what had just happened. He briefly started the starboard engine to let me hear the grinding. As soon as I heard the noise I had him shut down immediately. The sound seemed to be coming from under swim platform. Sounded metal on metal. Any idea what happened? Drive internals? Gimbal bearings?
