Need to replace the Transom in my 1976 Starcraft and am considering Starboard. Has anyone done this? If I go Starboard will I need to do two 3/4 inch pieces together like Plywood or would 1 3/4 or 2 1/2 together provide the same strength?

Re: Starboard for Transom

I cannot imagine that it will have the lateral strength needed to strong enough for a transom. Plywood is strong because of the alternating wood grains in the plys.

I have a little advice for you.....for questions like this which are not specific to your brand of boat, you'd be better off posting in the one of the more general sections like Restoration & Building as you'll get far more responses than down here in this brand-specific section.

Re: Starboard for Transom

I have replaced a transom on a 21' Islander. I've used Starboard before but I would not use it for a transom because of the strength ezombee mentions and I think it would change shape more than the plywood.

also if you went thicker than 1.75 you'd need to router around the edges for proper fit. I used it for a dashboard and didn't like it. Though it was strong.
