I am in the market for a used outboard, 115-200 HP. Some of the outboards I have seen are Counter rotating outboards that are being sold singularly. I am only looking for one engine, Can someone explain the drawbacks of powering my boat with a counter rotating outboard, if there are any? Does there have to be any different controls than standard? Why am I finding that these are being sold cheaper than their standard counterpart?

Prop selection will be limited compared to std rotation , as counter rotating outboards are most common as twin installations on larger boats.
They should use same controls etc. , the difference is in the lower unit.

If you can get the motor at a reasonable price, I'd buy it!!!! You can always use it and later possibly buy a used lower unit that is standard rotation...

So the counter rotating motor would basicly be able to perform the same as the standard, on a performance basis?

Exactly the same. It better be -- if the performance wasnt the same it'd drive a tech crazy on multi engine set ups.

This seems to be more and more common. We see it quite a lot around here. Most times the owner doesn't even realize it.

Yes, but the steering torque will be opposite compared to a standard rotator (which isn't a big deal at all)... Just have to prop it correctly...
