97 Johnson 150 J150EXEUE. Problem just started, was fine. My guess was a sluggish "Interrupter" switch. Removed the switch and the button feels responsive. The engine Idles well in Neutral or gear but stalls when being taken out of gear. It will start right up after that.
I would like some suggestions.

Thank you,
Nick

Could you expand on the adjustment of the shift cable? The shifting "appears" normal in that it engages forward, neutral, and reverse reliably. The problem that I am experiencing is an instant stall when I shift out of gear. The engine will restart and run without issues.
Thanks again,
Nick

Did you leave the switch off or bypass it to see if that was the issue, or just check it by moving it a few times by hand?

You may have slop in the shift cable allowing it to stay a.little too long on the interupter.

I will have to do more checking along the lines suggested. I did remove the switch from it's mount an operate it manually but not while the engine was running. I will disconnect it to see what happens the next time i'm on the water. In the mean time, I will dissemble the shift cable so it can be cleaned and lubricated in the area of the motor.
Thanks, keep the suggestions coming.
Happy 4th, happy boating.
