My Merc 200 carbed starts, runs, and generally performs like a champ....except...<br />If i give it throttle very slowly it will slowly increase rpm's until approximately 2500-3000, at that rpm range it will bog down and stall if you dont either cut the throttle back OR floor it. If you give it a quick burst of gas, she will jump right into action. It seems there is just a problem if you baby it at mid throttle. Any ideas???? Fuel filter is new, water separator working fine, new fuel. The engine has always done this. You can 'work' around it by just not babying her, but i think there has to be a way to solve the problem. Also, new primer bulb. Thank you.

Same problem on my former Merc. it finally was the linkage adj. but a great mechanic figured it out for me, after I did what you did.

The correct engine timing is different for all engine speeds. Hence, the purpose of timing advance. As the RPMs increase, the timing must also increase. IF you can find a book that will give you the timing curve per engine RPM, you could check it yourself with a timing light and tach. If not you could get a shop to check it. I will not gaurantee this is the problem, but this certianly would cause the problem you described.

what exactly is the linkage adjust? I will probably get someone to look at both the timing and linkage adjustment.
