Runs and rev to 3600 ok in yard. On water it stalls out after about 1/2 mile. Good compression, quiet motor, and carbs rebuilt at dealer. Wouldn't that be to quick stalling to be a vapor lock? Any ideas?

Need to know year and model number and what type drive.
How fast an engine will run with no load means nothing. When it stalles, do you have fuel, will it restart after a while, do you loose spark and it comes back?
Unless your engine is running over 200° in a small unvented hot engine compartment, vapor lock is not likely your problem.
Possible cause would be plugged fuel pickup or plugged fuel tank vent.

was refering to we really need more info. over the couse of 20 years must have been 40 or 50 engine drive combinations, each with its own different ign, fuel systems. the more information we have the faster we can help you narrow it down
and yes sometimes i will ask a customer a question and all they know is what color the drive is :)
