Hello. I have a 1996 Johnson 88 SPL on a 96 Stratos 258 bass boat. It seems to struggle a bit to get on plane, and I was told this is due to prop flex, that I should change to a stainless steel prop. Is this true ? they are not cheap. But if will help performance wise, I am all 4 it. Thanks in advance for the help.

Re: Stainless steel prop

You may just be running the wrong prop. What are your RPMs at WOT?

Re: Stainless steel prop

Stainless makes a huge difference. Try to get the same pitch and diameter as recommended by manufacturer. Then try a four blade as well. If you get into a different prop you pitch and diameter, you might have problems with over revving.

Re: Stainless steel prop

I would have to follow up by saying SS "can" make a difference, depending on model and type...mis-applications are very common with SS.
At this point, the most important question is as bhile asked....what is your RPM with the current prop, and what Make/model and pitch is it??
