Stainless steel prop on RIB with 70hp Mercury, do I need it?

He Guys,<br /><br />thinking about changing my aluminium prop<br />for a Stainless steel one.<br /><br />Would that really make a difference in performance, or just slightly..<br /><br />My boat is a 5m RIB and the motor is a Mercury 70HP...<br /><br />Thanks for any reply in advance !

Mervyn,<br /><br />With 70 hp. you'll see a little bit of added performance, particularly top end. Sometimes a stainless allows you to go up an inch or two in pitch while keeping your rpm. the same. The reason being is less slippage due to blade flexing.

Mervyn,<br /><br />I would too, unless your the type that just has to have every last bit of performance there is, which I'm not.<br /><br />Buy an extra aluminum and you'll still be $$$ ahead.

Merv You might play with your pitch a little <br />Check your rpm and prop pitch If your rpm is<br /> below max you may be able to go down a little<br />in pitch to gain some speed It would also give you a better hole shot.I dont reccomend running at max rpm all the time ,too hard on your motor but you could have that little boost in speed.<br />If you are allready running at max rpm you could go up in<br />pitch possibly getting a little speed and saving a little motor.Keep in mind an increase in pitch <br /> decreases your hole shot.
