Sta-Strap or Hose Clamp

Hi everyone,

I just finished rebuilding the carbs in my 1993 Mercury 40 horse 4 cylinder outboard. I am going to replace all of the fuel lines and fuel filter and I was wondering if I would be better off replacing the Sta-strap (which looks like a special zip tie) with a hose clamp. I would think the hose clamp would be a little tighter or would I risk cracking the plastic fittings? Those sta-straps are a real pain to get off.

thanks

Re: Sta-Strap or Hose Clamp

I just use the tie straps. they are simple to get off and install with a pair of diagonal cutters.
I do use the ones offered by BRP or merc that have the radius under the head.

Re: Sta-Strap or Hose Clamp

For the price the sta-straps are worth a try I just figured the hose clamps would be easier to get off. I don't know if there is a trick to getting the sta-straps off because I had to cut them off to remove them. The replacement sta-straps are 15 cents a piece so I guess better stick with the oem design. Just curious
