Squeeky trailer!

I've got a single axle trailer for my 16' Glastron. Whenever I go over a bump or something, it makes a really loud squeeking noise. I'm assuming it's the leaf springs. What can I do about it?

ZmOz,

The squeek is the rusty springs rubbing against each other.

Jack the trailer "frame" up so that the springs and axle are extended as far down as they will go and the wheels are off of the ground. This should "open" the springs up.

Work grease between the leafs of each spring and around the shackle bolts. (Use grease and not oil. Oil will wash out.) I've used standard marine grease and a pressurized grease gun and it does a fairly good job. Use a piece of nylon string to work it into the places that are hard to get to.

This worked for me when I had the same problem.

Nav

Spray grease in an aerosol can makes it easy to get grease between leaves. I found some in HDepot by Lubrimatic. It quieted the springs on my truck.
