Hello.
What i have is a 1987 mercruiser 3.0 with alpha 1 drive. The problem im having is a squealing noise when i first start the motor. It lasts for about 5 to 10 seconds. The exact same noise comes when i try to use the trim with the engine running. The trim does not squeal when the engine is not running so i am assuming its not the trim motor. Also when i go from reverse to forward sometimes it makes the noise. It almost sounds like a belt slipping but its not my belts.I dont get the noise at any other times. Any suggestions would be great. :D

I had the same problem. It is your belts. Tighten them up or remove any rust you may have in the pulleys. It goes away after 7-10 secondes becqause the belts warm up and stop slipping.

its defintely the belt slipping.. its happens when u put load on the electrical system and the alternator has to work harder causing the belt to slip.. as it warms up due to the slipping it grips a little better as cobra says..

loose or worn belt.. bad alterator bearings.. or a weak battery are possible causes.. sometimes a combination of more than one..

trog100
