Hey all. I used to have an old boat, 1987, and trailer of same year... it squeaks alot when driving around. I just got a new boat in Nov and it does too. What's the deal? Any way to stop it? Also - some previous posts mentioned transom savers... do they make any for I/O stern drives? (I have a Mercruiser 3.0L Alpha One). Any information most appreciated.

Re: Squeaky Trailer

Hey C-17 I almost bought the same boat in Oct. 2001 But bought a Blue Water Mirage 20'4" 250hp- Volvo I/O. Love my Blue Water How do you like the small motor. Went for the bigger boat because the wife wakeboards. And with me doing all driving I wanted comfort in the skippers seat swivel buckets, tilt power steering. I am retired Army CW-3. Thanks for continuing to proptect the rest of us. Rick :)

Re: Squeaky Trailer

My trailer squeaked alot as well. Jack the frame one side to unload the spring tension. Pry the leaf springs apart, one at a time. Get yourself a grease gun and grease needle and lube between each leaf. Careful not to allow leaf to snap together after greased. I still have grease in my teeth from doing that!!
Then you may want to retighten the spring bushing bolts as well.

Good luck! :)

C17,

Yes there are plastic devices that slip over the hydraulic rams on the tilt/trim cylinders that keep the outdrive from dropping. They are available at just about any marine store or catalog outfit.

Thanks... I got some today.... I need to trim them though.. odd. It looked like they would fit the actuators from the description on the box.. oh well!

-C17LoadSmasher ;)

Hey Schematic...

I tried that greasing the leaf springs method.... it still squeaks. It sounds like it is coming from the bushings so I am going to WD-40 it within an inch of its life and see if that helps. If not....oh well I suppose... hehe.

--C17LoadSmasher

Re: Squeaky Trailer

C17,
I have found that smearing a small amount of grease over the tow ball of the car can make a big reduction in trailer noise. If the ball is dry and the trailer coupling is dry also - you get a lot of high pitching squealing noise as you drive along.
It's a possibility - and worked for me.
