squaw fish bounty

I mainly fish for bass and salmon. This year I thought I would try the squaw fishing bounty a few times. the squaw fish bounty is $4.00 for first hundred 5.00 a fish for second hundred and so on. ive read the top guy makes $40,000. every year I would like to fish from ST. Helens to portland oregon section of the columbia river. Was wondering if anyone has any tips or spots to fish for these fish. I have caught them before when fishing for bass and salmon but never have targeted them.

Wish we had a bounty on those things, I am always catching the dumb things. They are useful when taking little kids fishing though, the kids don't know any better...

Squaw fish are skanky slimy fish that are good for little else than frustrating me when I am trying to land a nice fat smally. I will say if a person really wants squaw fish, spinner baits work really well, at least on my water. I have caught some pretty big ones. I caught a nasty ol' 18 incher last summer. Put up a decent fight, I'll give it that.

A few years back I had a day where the squaw was the only thing hitting, so I got bored and would thum the heads on the side of the boat and toss 'em to the dump ducks floating nearby.

They do have a proper name, and for the life of me I can't remember what that name is. I do remember we had some native americans who had less than favorable opinions on the use of "squaw fish" to name these vile things...

When I was a kid I used to fish for them and mom would plant them in the garden (They never came up)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!d

You can catch the heck out of them with a purple plastic worm on a small jig head swimming it in the swift water entering a big hole. They think it`s a migrating baby eel and you will have a ball. I`ve caught them over 20" long.

Well, I looked them up and the proper name is pikeminow. If their preferred forage is trout and salmon then a small swimbait would works darn well I think.

just found a website on them www.pikeminnow.org apparently you have to you have to check in before going out fishing and get paid for all fish 9 inches and over

Never herad of them never seen one.i dont think i want to theres enough trash fish around here to keep us busy.
