I think I spun the prop on my Alpha One outdrive. 2 weeks before the repair shop can even take a look, going on vacation next week. How do I remove prop and what do I look for? Is it as simple as holding onto the prop with one hand and turning the nut with a socket?

Re: Spun prop

You won't be able to hold onto your prop with your hand. Use a block of wood to stabilize the prop and a 1/2'' drive socket (potentially breaker bar; I use impact wrench) to remove the prop nut. Put on your spare and hope you don't spin that one while your primary gets the hub repaired.......remember, I am a cadet.

Ayuh,..........

A short piece of 2X4,....
A 1, 1/16" socket,.....
And a Screwdriver to pry the Tabs Up,......
Are the necessary Tools to have.....

Once the little lockng tabs are pried up,.......
Slip the 2X4 between the Prop,+ the Drive,+ turn the Nut CCW.......
Remove ALL of the prop's parts, til there's Only the Shaft.........
Slather Everything with Grease,+ install the new Prop,+ All it's parts........
Torque the Big Nut, CW to about 50ft.lbs.......That's Leaning on the wrench Pretty Good.......

Now,......... Go Boating...............;)

Re: Spun prop

I had same problem last year. I couldn't tell, but it was obvious to the shop I took it to. The rubber is basically twisted/torqued.

Take it off like the guys said. I use a piece of firewood to hold prop.

I took it to a local prop shop (midwest propeller repair in Olathe KS). They basically lube it up, take a think like a drill press and push the old one out.

then they put the new one in, looks like a huge rubber donut, lube it up then force it into the hole. Took 10 minutes and was fun to watch. Call around, you may get lucky and find a place that will do it while you wait.

Sometimes you can see what looks like tiny balls of rubber, here and there.
