I think i know my answer but I`ll ask. Took my boat out today and motor started to rev without going any faster, mainly past 1/3 throttle. It stayed in gear so i know the clutch dog is ok but my question is can a spun hub be intermidant? It would spin one time then we would shut it down for bit and fish, start it back up to try a different spot and it would be fine, no slipping. Is this a classic symptom of the hub on its way completely out? Thanks

Re: Spun hub

I can be a spun hub.

And depending on what kind of boat/motor you have, it can also easily be something else...

Bad engine coupler's on I/O's act the same way.

Year/make/model would be valuable info to have.

Re: Spun hub

Thanks for the replies. I wasn`t sure if a prop would spin one minute and the next it would be fine. Its a `69 johnson 20 hp on a 14ft starcraft alum boat, both shortshafts. I bought 2 used props for the motor as the the one it came with was pretty chewed up. I`ll get the prop re-hubbed as its in exc cond( besides the hub) I haven`t tried the other used one to see if it works or not.
