I was driving my 19-77 Hammond on the water yesterday and all of a sudden i could feel the boat losing power not the engine but boat was slowing so I throttled down and engine was running fine again so I throttled back up had a little power then nothing just whining up but not moving. Get towed back and finally get home and check the prop and every thing looks fine . I take prop off and inspect it and there's no cracks no slipping no breakage any where no damage . So I put prop back on boat and start it in driveway and every thing seems to be working. I put in drive it engages . I put it reverse it engages. So I hold the prop with a glove and towel and put it in gear and it go no problem. So I'm confused on what the issue is. My friend says it's a spun hub but from what I find on the Internet is that it don't sound like it to me. So sorry for so long and drawn out but hopefully it helps with diagnosis. Thanks
Well I'm back . A buddy told me to really try and turn the prop with it in gear not running in the opposite direction and it does . Does this mean it is my lower unit? Thanks for all the help.

Re: Spun hub questions

That happened to me once, I think I picked up a plastic bag or some thing on the lower unit causeing it to cavitate. When I tilted the motor up to check it, I saw nothing, when I put the motor back down, everything was fine. You can take a punch and put a mark on the inner and outer hub, take it to the lake. If it happens again, check the marks and see if they are still aligned. That would tell you if the hub is slipping.

Re: Spun hub questions

the way i found out i had a spun hub was to put the unit in gear and try to spin the prop.. i had put in foward gear and tried spinning the prop ccw. when i didnt turn the engine over but the prop turn with some effort, i knew the hub spun in the prop.. it should have turned the engine over
