Re: Spun a bearing pitted axle

Just about every farm store sells replacement stubs that can be welded onto the existing axle. Removing the old one is a simple process but it just takes a little time. There are two basic attachment methods. If the axle is round, the stub weld is circular and can be cut through with a hack saw or if you have an air compressor and cut-off wheel, its "duck soup" to cut away the weld. If the axle is a "U" channel, you will need a cut-off wheel in a drill or air tool to cut the weld at each side. Buy the new spindle and your local welding shop will fix you up for a nominal fee. Drop spindles are more expensive are not as readily available but can be ordered on-line.
