ok, I am looking at a 2003 stratos pro with a 2-stroke 150 Yamaha and a 1999 sprint with a 2-stroke 150 Johnson. the stratos has been heavily tournament fished. The sprint has not been in the water in 2 years. The stratos is $5800. The sprint is $5000. Both boats are nearly mint. I have some knowledge of the hulls and have inspected the transoms on both. The motor on the stratos has been kept up with but definetly rode hard. The motor on the sprint literally has not been cranked in 2 years but has been garage kept and looks flawless. (I know looks can be deceiving). WHICH ONE WOULD YOU PICK. Help me make up my mind...they are both fishable but I know one has to be better than the other. Help me figure this out. Thanks for all your HONEST opinions.

stratos 2003 should be wood free the 1999 sprint you would have to research.
A motor that has not run for 2 years is a $200 bill just on a basic service to get it up and running correctly. That doesn't make the stratos better or worse it just a point you have to understand when you buy it.

I would choose the one that has the better set up for what I wanted to do. If it was a fishing platform I would be interested in storage and ease of use (including make and model of trolling motor and electronics). If I wanted something that can fish and ski then I would want different options.

The biggest deciding factor would be which one I could go on a water test with.

Rule number 1: don't buy a boat you can't get a ride in for a water test
Boats are pretty exspensive to fix up, so unless your soul desires it, it's not worth fixing up

Stratos for me, esp Yamaha vs Johnson-- just a personal pref. By the time you get the older boat up and running the price could be more than a little negotiation on the newer one. At least you know it was taken care of. No fan here of boats left unused other than a cold weather season.
