spring question...clunking noise

I just bought a used 14' jon boat and 1978 trailer. any time i hit a bump i get a huge clunking noise not a squeak but a clunk. Would new springs solve this problem. They have probably never been changed.

hi. did you check to make sure u dont have a broken leaf?. check good where it bolts up on the axel. but im betting its dry where they bolt to the trailer frame, a good shot of wd40 on all 4 bolts where they bolt to the trailer might cure it. im betting they are dry and rusted.im no expert on springs, but its worth a check. good luck. bob

there are bushings that go in the springs (where they bolt to the traler)go local trailer shop and get some of the bushings and new bolts it might cost 10 buxs if that and with alittle time your squeaking will be gone. also what kinda springs to u have do they have eyes on both ends or just 1
